Entry qualification and requirements
Postgraduate diploma (or higher) second cycle higher education (master’s degree) in physics, optometry, chemistry, chemical technology, materials science, mechanical engineering or equivalent higher education. Please also add your Bachelor’s degree diploma and its supplements The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Latvian. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. Diplomas and transcripts issued outside the EU must be certified with an apostille. More information available HERE You must take the original entry qualification documents with you when you finally go to the university.
Language requirements
English Applicants will need to provide evidence of adequate English language knowledge unless they qualify for an exemption. The following international English language test certificates are accepted as part of your application: LanguageCert International ESOL at least Level Communicator B2 (Written and Spoken exams); TOEFL IBT – at least score 72 TOEFL Essential – at least 8 points IELTS – at least score 6.00 PTE General – at least level B2 FCE – at least level B CPE – Proficiency/C2 Proficiency: any level CAE – C1 Advanced: any level If your previous studies have been completed in English but not in the country listed below, then you have to submit an official letter from your previous educational institution (e.g. university.) where it is stated that the medium of instruction was English, and you have to attend an in-person or online interview where the University of Latvia will evaluate your language skills. Other requirements
Additional requirements: doctoral thesis proposal (template HERE ) agreed with a potential scientific supervisor, proof of English language proficiency at least at B2 level, CV in Europass format, motivation letter, proof of scientific research activities Entrance examinations: motivation assessment interview with a representative of the Doctoral School, as well as an oral presentation of the doctoral thesis topic and planned research at the Doctoral Council. The Council evaluates the applicant’s knowledge, the quality and relevance of the doctoral thesis proposal, as well as the results of previous scientific research.
