Nykypäivän ja tulevaisuuden automaatiotekniikan diplomi-insinöörillä tulee olla perinteisen automaatiotekniikan osaamisen lisäksi hyvä teoreettinen ja käytännön valmius digitaalisen murroksen tuomien uusien teknologioiden ja menetelmien hallintaan. Turun yliopiston automaatiotekniikan ohjelma vastaa tähän tarpeeseen kouluttamalla asiantuntijoita, joilla on sekä vahva perinteisen automaatiotekniikan perusta että erityisosaaminen uusimmissa teollisuuden automaation teknologioissa tai älykkäissä tuotteissa.
