About this programme

The international double degree Master’s programme in Specialised Translation and Cultural Mediation is offered jointly by Heidelberg University and the University of Salamanca. Over the course of four semesters, students study at two renowned European universities and graduate with two recognised Master’s degrees. The programme combines academic training with professional orientation and is designed for students seeking to qualify for careers in translation, multilingual communication, intercultural mediation, and related international fields. The curriculum provides advanced training in specialised translation, linguistics, cultural studies, and intercultural communication. Particular emphasis is placed on the social and cultural dimensions of multilingual communication as well as on the use of current translation and communication technologies, including CAT tools and artificial intelligence, which have become an integral part of professional practice. The programme also strengthens the link between theory and practice through internships in international contexts. A key feature of the programme is its international, intercultural, and interdisciplinary profile. Students benefit from studying in both Heidelberg and Salamanca, gaining first-hand experience in two academic systems and two cultural contexts. This structure allows them to develop strong linguistic, technological, and intercultural competences while preparing for both the professional market and academic career
